Kitchen-Themed Bridal Shower Cake
This cake was made by baking three 9" white cake layers. The layers were cooled and then filled with chocolate fudge. Next, I carved a thin "lip" to make the cake resemble a utensil crock. I then thin-coated the cake and placed it in the fridge for about twenty minutes after which I applied a layer of white fondant and smoothed it over the entire cake. Next, I cut strips of sage green fondant and applied them in stripes around the outside of the crock.
(A week prior to the assembly of the cake, I made the utensils from modeling chocolate and gumpaste. I fashioned them by hand and secured them to skewers so they would easily slide into the finished cake. I also cut the squares from lavender and sage (Bride's colors) fondant and applied them to the cake board. From gumpaste, I cut the letters using "Tappits." The lemons and daisies are also gumpaste. All of this was done in advance so that it had time to dry.)
Upon finishing the cake, I placed the final touches of utensils, fruit, and flowers.
