Hello Kitty Cake

This was an order for a friend who's little girl was turning 1. She wanted a Hello Kitty theme and wanted it to be "elaborate" and "pretty". She gave me an invitation and said to use that as the inspiration, she didn't want to know anything else until she saw it at the party.

I made a 10" and 8" stacked yellow cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. It was covered and decorated in homemade fondant (which I had never made before!). Flowers, stars and balloons were cut out of fondant using Wilton shaped cutout tools. The Hello Kitty figure at the top was a marshmallow lollipop. I made a Hello Kitty "smash cake" for the birthday girl and cupcakes to match. This was my first "all fondant" cake.

My friend and her husband were very pleased with the cake..."Beyond their expectations!"
